GRADY GAINES & THE TEXAS UPSETTERS
GRADY WAS SAXOPHONIST AND BANDLEADER for Peacock Records' Don Robey when he met Little Richard and became leader of the Upsetters. They recorded many classics like "Long Tall Sally", "Whole Lotta Shakin Goin On" and when Richard (temporarily) retired, Grady was hired by Sam Cooke to lead his band. After Cookes' death, Grady continued to play all the great houses like The Apollo and the Palladium, backing up Diana Ross, Gladys Knight, Bo Diddley, Etta James, Jackie Wilson and many, many others.

Ken Mondshine has shared the stage with luminaries such as Elton John, Colin Hay from Men at Work, Joe Sample, Peter White, Johnny Johnson, Ottmar Liebert, Eric Benet, and Bobby Lyle.
Mondshine’s passion for R&B and Jazz inspired him to form Brotherhood in 1997, which has become one of Houston’s hottest musical acts.
Brotherhood is a seven-piece contemporary dance band distinguished by their stunning lead vocals, which includes local legend Robert Berry and Ayanna. They deftly combine a wide range of styles (top 40, R&B, jazz, and dance music) perfect for weddings, nightclubs, and private corporate events. The Houston-based Brotherhood has even performed internationally, most recently in a concert for US troops stationed in Japan.

MAMBO JAZZ KINGS
Originating from the Galveston area in 1985, The Mambo Jazz Kings have been pleasing crowds for over three decades.
They are a high energy dance band that can lay down every funky beat from Earth Wind and Fire to Beyonce. The band’s resume of music also includes the big band sounds of Frank Sinatra, Bobby Darin, and Glen Miller.
The Mambo Jazz Kings, have been entertaining audiences both young and old from stages of concerts, festivals, and night clubs. Our impressive fourteen musician ensemble takes the stage every night. The band has an outstanding rhythm section, a powerful horn ensemble, and three vocalists that will keep you

MATT WILSON BAND
Matt Wilson is a consummate performing musician. He first gained national exposure wowing sold-out theaters as the Piano Man in the First National Tour of the Billy Joel and Twyla Tharp’s Tony-award winning musical Movin’ Out. The Austin-based singer-songwriter’s big gospel voice and the down-home flavor of his tasty piano playing made him ideal for representing Joel’s music.
Wilson also performed at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney and guest-starred in the Carolina Opry at Myrtle Beach in 2006. The Texas State Senate honored Wilson with a resolution for his achievements in fine arts, and he was selected for the Texas Commission on the Arts Touring Roster in 2018. He’s been featured at numerous piano bars around the country, such as Jellyrolls at Walt Disney World in Orlando, FL. In 2007 Matt completed and staged his theatrical multimedia tribute to the great rock n roll piano players called My Baby Grand. Each year, Matt Wilson headlines numerous private and social events for companies and parties of all sizes.

SPAZMATICS
The Spazmatics are the endless fun 80’s dance and show band you’ve been hearing about.
The Spazmatics were born in the spring of 1983 when physics professor Kevin Stigwood of Alta Dena High in Thousand Oaks California, lost a debate over String Theory to an upstart pupil in front of the entire student body and faculty. As agreed to by both parties, the loser would have to do anything that the winner demanded, and the victorious prodigy demanded that Mr. Stigwood perform “She Blinded Me With Science” by Thomas Dolby during half-time at an upcoming state basketball championship game.
Having no musical background and desperate to not go down in total humiliation, Professor Stigwood formed The Spazmatics by tapping the genius of electronics teacher Sydney Balderman (AKA “Syd Sonic”), who had achieved international acclaim in 1981 for his invention of “robot drums.” When Balderman (who was also the girls water polo coach at Alta Dena Middle School) explained that most of the music could be generated by computers, and that all he needed was a couple of decent musicians to complete The Spazmatics, Stigwood was ecstatic. To make The Spazmatics complete, Stigwood brought in his special needs brother Curtis on bass, and teacher’s assistant Rusty A. Woosmeir (AKA “The Raw”) on guitar.When The Spazmatics took center court that evening, members of the hip elite began heckling them with jibes of “geek” and “nerd,” while everyone else howled with laughter. But once they broke into the opening salvo of “Science,” the nonbelievers were stunned by the group’s authenticity of production, world class musicianship, and tight choreography. The Spazmatics performance came to a climax when Stigwood grabbed one of the cheerleaders and began doing the “Belinda” up and down the court with her in tow. When it was all over, the crowd rose in a standing ovation, and The Spazmatics were born.

THE MAXX
It’s rare to find a band that is steeped in tradition, yet remarkably modern, but The Maxx embodies that statement. Founding members Rod Whittaker (bass/keyboards/vocals), Leroy “Roc” Lovelace (sax/vocals), and Steven Rollins (guitar) are products of the Atlanta band era when neighborhood kids emulated their favorite 70’s funk groups. For over twenty years, The Maxx has continued this tradition by performing the music of their youth along with classic oldies and today’s pop music. Their energetic choreography and eclectic sound keeps them traveling the world entertaining countless weddings, conventions, and major corporate events; including Bill Gates and Microsoft.
The Maxx DNA consists of a strict work ethic instilled by their blue collar parents and endless childhood rehearsals. This discipline elevated The Maxx from a talent show house band to a college tour staple. By naming themselves after The Ohio Players’ album, Climax, it seems they were already prepared for greatness. As the music industry began to shift away from bands in favor of solo artists, the chance of signing to a major label became less likely. This change forced The Maxx to take control of their musical destiny. The process started when they re-named themselves The Maxx to establish their own unique sound. The band’s focus culminated to a decision to move from pursuing a record deal to pursuing their true passion; helping people enjoy life’s most treasured moments. Their Christmas album, For The Holidays, and intimate stage presence are proof of their commitment. By putting their clients first, The Maxx combines professionalism with captivating entertainment.
Over the years, The Maxx has learned that in order to sustain a successful career, they would have to constantly re-invent themselves. 2002 saw the addition of their first and only female vocalist, Rainy Middleton, a remarkable vocalist whose voice can tear a hole in the sky. THE TIN MAN BAND
It all started in Kansas City where Jeff Taylor was born and where at an early age he was exposed to the rich history and colors of that city's deep jazz tradition. He started gigging at the tender age of twelve with the “Al Bronson Polka Band”, and by the age of fourteen began playing lead trumpet for the “Kansas City Shriner Big Band”, as well as gigging around the Kansas City area during his High School years.
Jeff was awarded the N.A.J.E. outstanding musician award nine times during his high school and college years. Shortly afterward he was awarded the Outstanding Lead Trumpet prize at the Chicago Jazz Festival and Hawaiian Jazz Festival. He attended the University of Kansas, where he received a full scholarship in trumpet performance. He later attended the University of North Texas, where he studied with the legendary trumpet teacher Don “Jake” Jacoby. After a few years of intensive studies, the Clark Terry Big Band picked him up to play lead trumpet, which was then followed by a two-year stint of playing lead with the Maynard Ferguson Orchestra. He finally landed in Dallas, where he played with Bill Tillman (Blood Sweat and Tears) for nearly a decade. Jeff has also had the Honor of performing for former presidents Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush and Barak Obama…and his jazz trio is a regular for the Bush family’s events at their Dallas home.
He started his first band as leader in 1995 performing for corporate events, weddings and for Dallas’s most elite clientele, and in recent years has morphed into The TIN MAN BAND, one of the hottest cover/variety dance bands to come out of Dallas in years. Through tinkering with different players and singers, researching the most popular dance material and working with the best sound equipment, Jeff has hit on the right mix of all these elements, as well as the intangibles that inevitably construct a winning team, thereby producing The TIN MAN BAND!
Any good dance band is literally built from the ground up with one primary goal. Deliver a great party, and The TIN MAN BAND is doing that in a big way. Just ask Melisa Minto, Director of Catering and Events at Westwood Country Club in Austin.
